10 Secrets That Eyelash Artists Aren’t Eager to Share

thewebsiteadmin May 19, 2020

The services of lash artists are becoming more and more popular and if you spend 30 minutes in a mall, you will see a lot of women with eyelash extensions. The demand for these services is really high, so there are a lot of lash artists, but can we trust all of them?

Many female members of the News2uk team regularly get eyelash extensions. But as it turns out, our lash artists do their jobs in different ways and their recommendations also tend to vary. So, we decided to dive into the blogs of professional lash artists and find the answers to the most popular questions.

1. Can you use mascara on lash extensions?

Even after getting eyelash extensions, sometimes you want to highlight your eyes to make the effect even more dramatic. According to experts, you can use mascara on fake eyelashes, but you need to take several things into account:

  • Mascara will make thick fake lashes look even more artificial. They might just look ridiculous.
  • Regular mascaras might contain oils that will have a chemical reaction with the glue and dissolve it. So, you might start losing the lashes very quickly. You either need to read the list of ingredients very carefully and make sure it doesn’t have any oils in it or use special mascaras made especially for fake lashes.
  • You can’t use water-resistant mascara because you might need special products to remove it that can also dissolve the glue.
  • It is better to put mascara from the tips to the middle of the lashes and not touch the connection point.

2. What should you use to remove makeup?

If you have eyelash extensions, it is better to wash your face with water and water-based beauty products. They don’t remove makeup as fast as special gels, but they won’t dissolve the glue used to fix the lashes either.

3. Can you remove eyelash extensions by yourself?

Not every woman goes to a lash artist to have her fake eyelashes removed. Also, there are times when there is no artist around (like maybe when you’re on vacation). You can remove fake eyelashes by yourself, but don’t do the following things:

  • Use your nails to remove lashes in bunches.
  • Try to dissolve the glue with oil.
  • Cut the fake eyelashes to match the length of your natural ones.

To take fake lashes off, you need a special remover cream.

  • Put the cream on the line with a silicone stick or a cotton swab.
  • Leave it for a little while (usually, around 4 minutes).
  • Separate the lashes with tweezers, pull them by the ends.
  • When you’ve removed all the lashes, clean the skin the way you always do.

4. Do you need an eyelash fixer?

Lash artists often try to sell this to their clients, telling them that it will increase the lifespan of their fake lashes. Of course, they do it because they get a commission from selling the product. But let’s check and see if this fixer is really that important?

  • First, it is not made to increase the lifespan, but in order to maintain the original shape of the lashes. So, if an artist is telling you that the fixer will prolong the life of your lashes, you can roll your eyes and leave.
  • Second, if you use this fixer often, it might make the lashes sticky and they will end up looking terrible.

We were attracted by the defensive features of this product. In theory, it is supposed to protect the lashes from any outside factors. But on the other hand, the effect will only last until you wash your face for the first time. So, it is up to you to decide if you need this product or not.

5. Can eyelash extensions harm your vision?

This is a really difficult question. Experienced lash artists claim that there is no such risk. And eye doctors say that they regularly have to deal with the consequences of fake eyelashes.

Let’s rule out the examples of when you see an inexperienced artist in a place that doesn’t follow the necessary sanitary requirements. We want to find out what the risks are when you are going to the best salon.

  1. Eyelashes that are too thick can create the effect of a fan, which increases the amount of air blowing on the eye, which can make it dry faster. This will cause discomfort.
  2. Many kinds of glue contain formaldehyde, which can cause an allergic reaction. This is why when you are going to get your first fake eyelashes, you have to check the products a lash artist uses in their work.
  3. The Staphylococcus aureus bacteria lives on our eyelashes. It is totally safe unless there are too many of them. However, fake eyelashes may cause an increase in bacteria, which may lead to blepharitis, a condition that is very hard to treat.

If you’ve never had fake lashes before or if you decided to change your artist, make sure you monitor the condition of your eyes for the first few days after the procedure and if you have a bad reaction, go see a specialist immediately.

6. What should every lash artist have in their office?

We hope that our readers are not going to have a procedure in a place with fungus on the walls and dirt everywhere, but there are also some other things you need to keep an eye on:

  • The room must have an AC where the right temperature has to be set. Every glue has its own temperature requirements and if they are violated, it will dry wrong.
  • Also, the room should have a humidifier for the same reason: the humidity requirements of the glue.
  • A sterilizer. The procedure can only be done with sterile tools, even though they don’t come into contact with the blood or the mucous membranes. Anything can happen and your safety is of the utmost importance.

7. Why do some lashes not last very long?

Sometimes, it is the client’s fault that the lashes start falling off fast.

  • A client might take a bath or shower during the first hours after the procedure.
  • A client might not have warned the artist about an allergic reaction, their vitamin intake, or their lack of vitamins.
  • A client might rub their eyes often with their fingers.

8. Could it be the artist’s fault that you start losing eyelashes?

Lash artists are people too and they can make mistakes. If the lashes have started to fall off very fast, it is possible that:

  • Your artist used the wrong kind of glue.
  • Your artist didn’t notice that your eyes were too wet during the procedure and that the connection line was wet too.
  • Your artist didn’t set the right humidity and temperature in the room.

9. What words from a lash artist should alarm you?

According to lash artists themselves, some artists may try to hide their poor skills behind these popular excuses:

  • If a lash artist says that your lashes are too short and that they have to stick the fake lashes to the skin, run away.
  • If the lashes look asymmetrical and the artist says that it is because your eyes are naturally asymmetrical and that a better result on your face would be impossible, they are a bad artist. Their job is to make it look like your eyelids are as symmetrical as possible.
  • Also, if you find that your lashes have started to peel off very fast and the artist blames you right away. Very often, they say that you slept with your face on the pillow (which is hard to argue with because you can’t control yourself in your sleep). In fact, it is actually really hard to sleep so that the lashes are pinched so much that they peel off.

10. When is the best time to get eyelash extensions?

The salons that do these procedures also have their peak demand periods and bad seasons.

  • The lowest prices are usually from the middle of fall to the middle of winter (especially during Christmas holidays). This is when there are a lot of free bonuses and discounts.
  • The peak demand is from May through September. This is when the prices are the highest.

Do you get eyelash extensions? If yes, tell us how you chose your first eyelash artist and whether you were happy with the results?
